Accessibility Statement

Effective Date: May 2026 Last Reviewed: May 2026

Scottish Home Inspections is committed to making this website accessible to as many people as possible, including users with visual, hearing, motor, or cognitive impairments. This statement explains how accessible we believe this site is, where we know it falls short, and how to get in touch if you experience an accessibility problem.

1.Standards We Follow

This website has been designed and built to conform to Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 Level AA, the recognised standard for accessible web content. We also follow the principles set out in the UK Public Sector Bodies (Websites and Mobile Applications) (No. 2) Accessibility Regulations 2018 as best-practice guidance, even though as a private business we are not within their formal scope.

We test against this standard using a combination of:

  • Automated audit tools — Lighthouse and axe DevTools
  • Manual keyboard-only testing of every interactive element
  • Screen-reader testing with NVDA on Windows and VoiceOver on macOS / iOS
  • Manual colour-contrast checks against the WCAG AA thresholds (4.5:1 for body text, 3:1 for large text and UI components)
  • Responsive layout testing at 320px, 768px and 1280px viewport widths

1a.Compliance Status

The table below shows the current compliance status of each page on this website as of the date this statement was last reviewed.

The "Under review" items above are not within the formal scope of this website (they sit on separate subdomains) but we treat them as part of the same user journey and are working to bring them to the same standard.

2.How This Website Is Accessible

We've designed and built this site with the following accessibility features:

  • Semantic HTML structure so screen readers can navigate the site logically
  • Skip-to-content link on every page for keyboard users
  • Proper heading hierarchy (one H1 per page, no skipped levels)
  • Descriptive alt text on all meaningful images; decorative images marked accordingly
  • ARIA labels on navigation, sections, and interactive components
  • Form fields with programmatically associated labels
  • Visible keyboard focus states on every interactive element
  • Colour combinations tested to meet AA contrast requirements (minimum 4.5:1 for normal text)
  • Responsive design that works on phones, tablets, and desktops
  • No content that relies on colour alone to convey meaning
  • Content readable when text is resized up to 200%

3.Known Limitations

We are aware of the following areas that may not fully meet WCAG 2.1 AA. We are working to improve them.

Contact enquiry form

The enquiry form on our Contact page is one of our own systems, hosted on a separate subdomain. It is being independently reviewed for WCAG 2.1 AA compliance and styled to match the rest of this website. If you find it difficult to use, please contact us by phone on 0131 381 7729 or by email at info@scottishhomeinspections.co.uk.

Booking system

Our online booking system runs on a separate subdomain that we operate. It is being independently reviewed for WCAG 2.1 AA compliance and styled to match the rest of this website. If you cannot complete a booking online, please contact us directly and we will arrange your inspection by phone or email.

PDF documents

Some legal documents (Inspection Terms, Pre-Inspection Agreement) and the sample inspection report are provided as PDF downloads. We aim to make PDFs accessible, but some structural elements may not be fully tagged. If you need an alternative format (large print, plain text, audio), please contact us.

Embedded maps

The pricing and travel calculators use Google Maps services to look up locations. Map-based services are not always fully accessible to screen readers. The result of any calculation is displayed in clear, readable text so the functionality remains usable without interacting with the map directly.

4.Reporting Accessibility Problems

If you encounter any accessibility barriers on this website, or you need information from this site in an alternative format (for example large print, plain text or audio), we want to hear from you.

Please contact us with details of the problem (page URL, browser, assistive technology used, and what went wrong). We commit to:

  • Acknowledge your message within 1 working day
  • Provide a workaround within 24 hours if the issue is blocking access
  • Deliver a full response or alternative format within 5 working days
  • Email: info@scottishhomeinspections.co.uk
  • Phone: 0131 381 7729 (Monday–Friday, 9am–6pm)
  • Contact form: scottishhomeinspections.co.uk/contact

5.Enforcement

If you contact us about an accessibility problem and are not satisfied with our response, you can refer the matter to the Equality Advisory and Support Service (EASS), which is the independent body that handles accessibility complaints in the UK.

6.Preparation of This Statement

This statement was prepared in May 2026. It is reviewed and updated regularly as the website changes. Accessibility testing was carried out using automated tools and manual review by Grounded Business Solutions.
